Year 10 and 11 Girls on their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Practice Expedition
A group of Year 10 and 11 Brantwood girls set off from The foxhouse Inn on Saturday 20th October. It was fairly cold but the sun was rising which made it warmer. They started off well but after half an hour we found themselves lost! The first day was a hard struggle but when they stopped for lunch along Curbar Edge their day was brightened up by the spectacular scenery. After lunch spirits were high, and they carried on positively. By five o’ clock they arrived at Moorside Farm which was the campsite for the night. The trangias worked well and the food tasted as well as could be expected. That night was a long and cold night but they managed to get through it.
The worst part was the morning and trying to get out of the tent and cook breakfast. The tents were covered in frost which resulted in us all being fairly damp. The group made steady progress throughout the day and didn’t get lost once, all walking quite quickly with determination to reach their goal – home!
Sunday was a foggy, misty day but it brightened up later on. They had a steady walk reaching the Monsail Trail. Finally they reached the bookshop in Hassop and collapsed in a heap with the satisfaction of knowing they had successfully completed the practice expedition in preparation for the real thing in a few weeks time!
