Wear it Purple Day
Girls at Brantwood School had a non uniform day but were asked to wear something purple and donate £1.00 to South Yorkshire Eating Disorders Association.
Purple represented empowerment for the suffragettes and has been adopted by the National Eating Disorders Association – BEAT as a symbol of empowerment.
Head teacher Lynn Marriott a trustee of SYEDA held a special assembly for pupils and parents to raise awareness of eating disorders and talk about the support available for sufferers and carers at the new centre in Upperthorpe.
“ Young women today are under enormous pressure to be thin, role models like Victoria Beckham send confusing messages to adolescent girls about what they should look like. Eating disorders are a growing problem for the health service to deal with and often sufferers have to reach drastic weight loss before they get medical help. I want to ensure that young women here at Brantwood know the facts and know where to get help”
The total amount raised on the day was £170.
