The Infant School

Life at Brantwood begins at age 3 when girls may join the Early Years group. Entry is flexible at this stage in your daughter’s education and can be full or part time, whatever is most appropriate for both you and her. Mrs Snowden, Reception and Early Years Co-ordinator will discuss your daughter’s needs with you and welcome her into the class gradually, beginning with short visits and building up to joining the class on a regular basis in our Reception class at age 5. We want the girls to feel happy, confident and secure at this important stepping stone, and individual targets are set which are sensitive to their needs.

Mrs Snowden, supported by Mrs Jackson, our teaching assistant, takes great care of the girls educational, emotional and social needs and is always available to meet with parents on a daily basis. They keep parents informed about every aspect of their daughter’s welfare, fostering close home and school links.

Our small teaching groups help every girl to flourish as an individual and give them the confidence to take an active part in the wider school community. Their day is varied and covers all subject areas in an age appropriate way, encompassing a wide ranging curriculum which includes academic subjects as well as an introduction to French, Music and Dance. Girls are taken to the Library where as well as choosing books they may also use the ICT facilities which are in addition to those in their class room.

Girls in Years 1 and 2 continue with the varied curriculum already established and progress is closely monitored at every stage in their educational and social development. Parents receive regular feedback and information and should it be required, we have well established intervention and support strategies in place. Parents receive regular reports and are invited to formal Parents’ Evenings, but can be secure in the knowledge that we welcome parents on a daily basis and are always available to discuss their daughter‘s progress and development.
