Sport
Brantwood makes excellent use of the first class facilities within the city. Girls in the Senior School use the international sporting venues in Sheffield such as Ponds Forge, Don Valley Stadium, the English Institute of Sport and Hallamshire Squash and Tennis Club for their games lessons.
Infant and Junior School girls have games lessons on site with occasional visits to outside facilities for swimming and athletics.
Throughout the school year girls have the opportunity to take part in tennis, squash, hockey, swimming, athletics and rounders during the games lessons and extra curricular football, kick-boxing and netball are offered each week.
Outdoor activity days are also organised as well as Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and Junior School girls have the opportunity to stay at a local outdoor activity centre.
Music
At Brantwood School, girls have the opportunity to take instrumental lessons. These lessons all take place during the school day, and are rotated regularly.
We currently offer lessons on; voice, classical guitar, violin, flute, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon. All lessons are arranged through the Music Service.
As soon as they are able girls who learn an orchestral instrument are expected to take part in one of the school ensembles and have the opportunity to take external examinations – either those run by the Music Service or The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
Educational Visits
Every class has a programme of educational visits to support the curriculum. These may include theatre trips, visits to farms or museums for example for the Infant and Junior School and visits to the theatre, lectures, historic or geographical sites or visits abroad to help develop language skills for classes in the Senior School.
The School Council
Student’s views are given a forum at School Council Meetings. Held every half term the meetings give every girl a voice via their class representative. The meetings are organised by the Head Girl and her deputy
The House System
Brantwood has three houses Kenwood, Hillsborough and Beauchief, each named house areas where the school has been located. Every girl is allocated a House on entry to the school and takes part in a variety of House based activities which may range from sport to fundraising. A system of House Points encourages individual effort and contribution to support the House. Senior Prefects are appointed as House officials and with the help of staff run the House meetings.
Assemblies
Assemblies are held every school day. Brantwood is a non-denomonational school and welcomes girls of all faiths. Our assemblies have a strong moral and ethical focus. We see the school assembly as a time for the girls and staff to meet as a community with the emphasis on those shared values and qualities which are such an important part of our school’s ethos.
