The Senior School

Brantwood Senior School is well recognised for the outstanding academic results achieved year on year, regularly being placed in the top three schools in the city at GCSE. We hold on to traditional teaching values whilst ever changing to meet the needs of the modern curriculum and advances in technology. Small teaching groups, typically about twelve in size, sometimes less and an excellent support network give, we believe, the finest opportunities to the girls.

The range of subjects available at GCSE is comparable to many larger schools and girls have the opportunity to select from optional subjects as diverse as Drama, Food Technology, Physical Education, Religious Studies and Music. These are in addition to the compulsory core curriculum which includes a modern foreign language and ICT.

Curriculum information is available on request as a separate booklet for each year group.

Facilities

The School Governors have an exciting development programme underway which will see further upgrading of our ICT facility, developments in the grounds to include an all weather sports pitch and ongoing upgrades of the building and teaching equipment.

We take advantage of the top class international facilities in the city for our sports lessons and go to Pond’s Forge for swimming and the English Institute of Sport for athletics as well as using other venues for hockey and cross country running.

Not Just Lessons !

As in the rest of the school, girls can take advantage of our extended day and stay after school to study or take part in activities which range from football, arts & craft to ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence).

At lunchtimes there are plenty of activities to join if a girl wishes and the choice ranges from netball to chess and also includes the opportunity to become involved in a choir or an instrumental group.

For those aged 14 and above we run a very successful Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme and all girls eligible are urged to become involved in this highly regarded activity which offers new challenges.

Girls are given the opportunity to become involved in theatre visits, field trips and subject based activities such as Science week or visits to places of historical importance.

Charitable fundraising involves girls in the wider world and it is encouraging to see how enthusiastically girls raise money for charity, often organising the events themselves.

For those who enjoy performing music, dance and drama we hold regular concerts which showcase the talents of girls from every part of the school, from the youngest to the oldest.
